Fan Turnkey Projects:

We offer an all-encompassing turnkey capability which includes product design, equipment manufacturing, site labor, site supervision and total project management. A typical turnkey project may include blade tipping, bearing retrofits, complete fan installations, remove and replacement of large induced-draft fan rotors, rebuilding of the fan foundations, installation of new bearing pedestals, or motor base and installation.

Fan Management Contracts:

Howden Buffalo provides all aspects of recommended and preventative maintenance to meet the requirements of any fan system in any environment. This begins with the total job management including staffing and supervision of mechanical, electrical and supervisory personnel, full reporting and testing on an agreed-upon basis, full time 24-hour emergency service and parts sourcing and stocking to ensure 100% availability of all equipment. Other routine maintenance and testing is included in our management contracts.

Fan Aerodynamic Performance Testing:

As the industry leader, Howden Buffalo offers years of unmatched experience in air and gas handling equipment and customer service. Aerodynamic Performance Testing is an important service which we provide. Our proven testing process helps eliminate performance problems in power and industrial process fans, as well as inefficient operation to incorrectly sized fans or mismatched system applications.

The most accepted method for calculating fan performance is the Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) Publication 203-90 Field Performance Measurement of Fan Systems. It is Howden Buffalo's preferred method of determining fan performance.

Performance testing certainly is done on a new piece of equipment, but more commonly is used to assess a mature fan. Out testing process:

  • establishes current operating points, efficiencies and any system effect factors.
  • evaluates a change in system resistance due to new emission control equipment or other plant modifications.
  • identifies potential for fan upgrades due to current lack of production or future increases in unit capacity.
  • addresses fan and duct vibration problems.

Vibration Analysis, Fan Balance and Troubleshoot:

Our highly trained and experienced field personnel will perform and/or assist in vibration analysis, surveys as required usually through troubleshooting efforts. Fan Balance is easily accomplished and routinely verified during our start-up involvement.

Complete Installation and Start-Up Service:

Power fan equipment has become increasingly more complex and the fans themselves have become larger. Howden Buffalo is committed to ensuring that your fan equipment is installed efficiently and correctly with trained technical advisors and mechanical services representatives on hand.

Our Pre-Installation Conference occurs prior to the start of the installation and is conducted by an experienced Howden Buffalo Technical Advisor. This step ensures the new installation is properly planned and correctly installed. All contract drawings, instruction books and installation sequences are reviewed. This is a valuable tool can reduce installation time and rework significantly, thus saving valuable time and money for our customer.

Complete Installation and Start-Up Service by experienced Technical Advisors will minimize construction problems and installation costs by ensuring that the fan is installed in the proper sequence, that each step is checked before proceeding to the next step and that problems are quickly resolved. Proper inspection prior to start-up will increase reliability and availability, thus avoiding potential operating problems. Additionally, construction problems and installation costs are minimized. We provide the customer with a comprehensive written report, which includes fan vibration, fan balance alignment and clearance readings recorded along with the mechanical status of all fan parts for comparison during the life of the equipment.

Installation Checkout/Inspection:

Proper installation of power fan equipment is critical to performance, reliability and availability. The inspection verifies mechanical integrity and provides a final assessment of the installation prior to grouting and insulating. This is the step where potential installation problems are identified and corrective actions are taken before the fan is placed in operation.

A detailed installation report is provided following the inspection. All clearances and alignments measured, along with the mechanical status of all fan parts, are included in this report. Instructions and recommendations are provided with regard to any installation deficiencies noted. This report also serves to verify the mechanical condition of the fan and provides a record for future reference.

Gyrol Fluid Drive Inspection:

Howden Buffalo offers a one-day inspection of your Gyrol Fluid Drives with uninterrupted service. Our goal is to assist in the continued performance reliability and trouble free operation you've come to expect from Howden Buffalo. Our on-site inspection package includes:

  • Complete visual inspection under normal operating conditions;
  • vibration analysis;
  • conference with plant personnel discussing inspection results;
  • recommended spare parts lists for plant sites;
  • informing plant personnel of available upgrades;
  • life extension options; and
  • firm pricing on future turnkey inspections.

We are also the leading supplier of fluid drives, parts and service. We have developed rebuild packages which include all parts required for a normal overhaul.

Long-Term Service:

At Howden Buffalo we are confident that the jobs completed with continuous coverage by one of our capable service representatives will, in the end, be the most cost-effective solution for you company. It is for this reason, and to promote continuous outage coverage of repair work, that we offer a long-term service relationship. Howden Buffalo offers wear protection for wheels, housings, inlet boxes, inlets, IVC's, shafts and other wear parts. This helps you avoid unplanned outages, combat erosion and eliminates long ans costly change-out downtime and production costs. Our Customer Service manufactures products and provides services for controlling wear. Specific wear protection includes:

  • AR (abrasion resistant liners);
  • high alumina cermic liners;
  • tungsten carbide liners;
  • flame spray stainless steel;
  • conforma clad (tungsten carbide coating); and
  • hardface overlay welding.

Liner fastening methods include:

  • flame sprays;
  • plug welding;
  • stud welding;
  • counter-sunk bolts;
  • perimeter welding;
  • glued/cemented; and
  • metallurgically bonded (fused to base metal).

Blade Tipping:

Howden Buffalo blade modification is a proprietary design which is more effective aerodynamically than what is typically offered in the market today. This process allows you to make a very low investment, yet boost fan performance without the cost of replacement. Each application is custom-engineered and the initial cost of the parts and installation is minimal along with the attraction of a short lead time.

Blade tipping can accurately predict new performance increases and at the same time we are aware of the importance of minimizing mechanical blade loadings. This readily installed field modification is most economical, especially when compared to alternates such as new rotors or new fans. Specifically, airflow is increased up to 7.5% and pressure up to 15%. An added benefit for using Howden for this purpose is that we have the original drawings for all fans manufactured by Buffalo Forge, Howden, Sturtevant, Green, American Standard and many others.

Westinghouse Sturtevant Bearings:

Howden Buffalo offers two styles:

  • SAWC self-aligning water-cooled (predecessor to HD); and
  • HD (heavy duty) current bearing.

Most sizes are in stock available for quick shipment.

Retrofits, Upgrades and Parts:

We offer retrofits, upgrades and parts for the following equipment:

  • utility/custom fans;
  • heavy duty/indutrial fans;
  • ventilating (axial and centrifugal) fans;
  • propeller fans and roof vent units;
  • coils;
