Ecodyne Deaerators

Deaerators are mechanical devices that remove dissolved gases, primarily oxygen and carbon dioxide from water. Our design objectives are to heat the feedwater to as high a temperature as possible, which corresponds to the operating pressure of the deaerator, by the use of oxygen free steam and to remove oxygen to a level of 0.005 cc/l (7ppb) and CO2 to zero. We design deaerating heaters for loads ranging from 10,000 lbs/hr (4,500 kg/hr) for smaller industrial plants up to 10,000,000 lbs/hr (4,500,000 kg/hr) for large utility applications.

We manufacture two types of boiler feedwater deaerators, a spray-scrubber type and a spray-tray type, both producing the same effluent quality. The spray chamber/water box is the same for both type units with the difference being the second stage. Scrubber type units are less expensive than a tray type and are very efficient when there is a large steam demand due to cold inlet temperatures. The major advantage for a tray unit is that it can operate at low turn down rates (<10%) and can perform with low steam demands common in utility installations.

We also supply vacuum type deaerators for the removal of O2 and CO2. Vacuum pumps are used to provide the necessary operating pressure (vacuum) which is required for the removal of O2 down to typical effluent levels of 0.05 to 0.5 ppm. These deaerators use various stages of packing and operate at cold temperatures (do not heat the water).

Our deaerators are manufactured to Heat Exchange Institute Standards (H.E.I.) which is the most common referenced specification to which deaerators are requested to be designed to.

We offer a number of deaerator product line features:

Proprietary Spray Valves:

Our proprietary spray vales (left photo) are constructed of 316 series stainless steel and are attached by three bolt assemblies.

The bolt and single piece stem and plug are investment cast for precision and reliability. The valves are spring loaded and self adjusting to assure that the water is sprayed in controlled thin films at loads from less than 10% to over 150% of rated capacity. This feature assures heating of inlet water to 2 degrees F of the steam temperature at all load conditions and provides proper distribution to the second stage deaerator. The controlled spray pattern ensures maximum efficiency of the internal vent condenser. The valves are installed in the deaerator so that they are easily accessible for inspection. Experience has shown that this spray valve construction is free from difficulties of scaling or corrosion. The spray valves are designed to give minimal pressure drop.

Proprietary Trays

Our high efficiency stainless steel trays (right photo) are manufactured in a single forming and are of extremely rugged construction. They utilize a unique lock together assembly feature and are easy to install. In addition, there are no welds or rivets to fail in these trays. Maximum efficiency is assured by this exclusive design. The multi-weir design provides a longer weir edge per unit volume and assures more complete deaeration at all loadings.

Direct Contact Internal Vent Condenser

Our direct contact internal vent condensor assure complete venting of all released non-condensable gases with minimum steam loss. The excess steam contacting the vent condenser surfaces, condenses, and returns to the first stage spray section of the deaerator. Non-condensable gases exit through the vent outlet to atmosphere.
